Volvo and others have used a ptc resistor as a sort of thermal overload for lock motors.
The lock actuator consists of a small electric motor that drives a gearbox which in turn locks and unlocks the door.
If the power door lock relay fails it will cut off power to the entire power door lock system and may cause them to not function correctly.
I was told that i could swap out doors and everything would be plug and play.
The process is similar when you move the switch to the lock position.
Power door locks that do not function are another common symptom for a problem with the door lock relay.

When you use the key fob to lock or unlock the doors the receiver provides power to the unlock and lock control coils and the system operates just like if you had used the door.
So i went out and got some doors from a 2004 silverado with power windows.
It sounds simple enough right.
It was inside the lock actuator and was a disc a bit smaller than a dime between two contacts series to the motor.

That s a dead ringer sign of a bad door lock actuator.
In a partial failure you ll hear some noise coming from the door panel and the manual door lock button may appear to move slightly but not enough to completely lock or unlock the door.
To get ground the ground path goes through the non energized power door lock relay which is in the ground position when not energized and then to ground.
